Hello, I’m Destiney.

I’m a Type A and Type B hybrid —

I love lists. I love procedures. I love having a plan and executing it flawlessly. 

But I’m also a creative — I go with the flow, have dreams bigger than what I can keep up with, and am a total romantic at heart. 

My vintage pieces get human names because they truly are my babies. Plus, saying ‘goodnight Blanche’ seems a little less weird than ‘goodnight 1940s nude sofa’. 

(And don’t you worry, I’ve got the rest of the Golden Girls — Rose, Sophia & Dorothy — sleeping soundly in the Annata warehouse too!)

My toxic trait is telling my life story to those I’ve just met.

So, without further ado…

  • Annata (Italian for ‘vintage’) has been a long time in the making. I’ve always had a thing for antiques — I started thrifting in high school and was immediately hooked. Being a natural overthinker, thrifting gets me out of my head. It’s better than meditation!

    I accidentally started growing a collection of vintage items — a few glasses here, a chair there — and then I got engaged. Let’s just say the excuse to go all out with vintage wedding decor meant my already full basement was suddenly an antique warehouse. It was organized chaos, but chaos nonetheless.

    The idea of starting a vintage prop rental business had been playing on my mind for a while, but the plan was firmly on the backburner. Trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up, I ran my photography business part-time while working a series of corporate jobs before landing at the University of Iowa to manage the Honors Program.

  • Eventually I decided to work for myself again. I was ready to jump back to full-time photography with a new brand, new niche & loads of grand business plans (some that finally involved renting out my vintage pieces out for photo shoots!) — but before I had the chance to get started, I was attacked by a dog. In a split second my life changed. Everything was put on hold…. or more accurately, replaced with reconstructive surgeries and rehabilitation.

    A light in all this drama, though, was the birth of my darling twin girls, Evie & Faye.

    Such big changes make you reevaluate what’s important in life. I looked around at my bulging basement and thought screw it, let’s do it. In a stroke of serendipity, I came across a vintage company in Tennessee that was selling all its inventory. It was the push I needed to go all in.

  • Annata is now a 2400 square foot warehouse full of gorgeous retro beauties. We may have grown quickly in size, but the essence of the brand remains: it’s all about the story.

    Your event is just one of countless special occasions that will be part of our rentals’ lives, like a chapter in its storybook. There’s something quite magical about that, don’t you think?
